Profile

Don Bosco Vembu Vilathikulam is located in Tuticorin District. It was started in the year 2000 and it works to create a society with communal harmony, socio – economic growth of the under privileged community. Particularly child laborers school drop – outs and marginalized youth & women.      

Activities

 

  1. Promotion of women self help groups and providing regular income generating, and capacity building training for effective functioning.
  2. Awareness and sensitization programmes through the cultural group “SIRPI”and promotion of native art.
  3. Children’s parliament to educate and empower the children to become the future leaders.
  4. Youth group to organize community development activities.
  5. Children’s library “Karisal” in 45 different locations.
  6. Boarding for poor children.
  7. Vocational training centre provides training to the poor youth in typing, tailoring, and computer skills to increase their employability.

Fact Points

            Majority of rural poor youth in Tuticorin District are uneducated.

            They become child labor at an early stage.

            Unemployment problem in Tuticorin is on the increase.

Awareness about child labor and literacy is very low in the rural area of the district.

            Only a few marginalized youth get proper counseling and guidance.

Intervention

Don Bosco Vilathikulam has primary school where 150 rural students are educated.

            750 Child labour of Tuticorin are educated through child labour school.

Creation of job opportunities to 100 marginalized youth is done by Don Bosco Vilathikulam.

            The women get benefited, through the women’s groups in 20 villages.

The Need

More number of social awareness program about child labour has to be done in Tuticorin district.

Marginalized youth of Tuticorin has to be educated inorder to bring down the date of drop outs fully.

Profile

Don Bosco Mission Keelaeral was stared in Tuticorin District Since 2000. It is working for the rural poor Dalit of the Tuticorin District. It caters to the technical education and formal school education of the rural poor Dalit.

Activities

Parish Ministry:Parish Mission with six sub-stations; Village Animation: Evening Study Centres, Primary School, Youth Groups, Women Self-Help Groups, Children Parliaments, Boarding and CFCA; Community College:DTP, Two Wheeler and Four Wheeler Mechanism, Electrician, Welding and Computer Hard Ware.

Fact Points

In Keelaeral more number of dalits is uneducated and their families are economically very poor.

Drop outs and street children are found on the streets of Tuticorin.

Lack of awareness, education and employment among the youth.

Some rural poor youth become anti-social elements of the society.

Intervention

Don Bosco Keelaeral educates the poor Dalit by giving them valuable technical education to 300 youth.

Awareness Program and counseling given to 100 rural poor youth.

Creation of Job opportunities for 150 students in various companies each year.

The Need 

More counseling and guidance for Dalit youth have to be started.

New job oriented courses have to be implemented.

Dalits in Tuticorin district have to be educated.

Job Placements cells have to be started.
