15. MELANMARAINADU

St. John Bosco; (1993) 1999: Madurai

VISION

We will opt to work for poor and marginalized youth, to prevent child labourers and commit ourselves to the integral and religious education of the young. We creatively and daringly respond to the signs of the times bearing witness to Salesian Charism and aim towards total literacy, making the young good and honest citizens and agents of social transformation and empowerment.

MISSION

Don Bosco Melanmarainadu Confreres are committed to enliven the lives of the neglected and rural less privileged children and young people through various initiatives and developmental programmers with the intention of ensuring them a better future.

We pledge to empower the young and make them strong through the life coping skills and soft skills.  We promote and protect the rights of children and young by mobilizing the public to fight against child labour and various crimes against children through awareness campaigns.

HISTORY

The Pioneers Fr. S. Vincent Sdb and Fr. M. John Louis Sdb were staying in Alangulam from June 1993 and establishing the Salesian mission. The Madurai Arch-Diocese gave to the Salesians 10 acres and 45 cent of land at Bosco Nagar (called Athupalam) in Melanmarainadu. A small shelter home with three students namely Robert, Raveendiran & Aarumugam was functioning from 1980 in the village. The Salesians shifted it to Bosco Nagar.  A small tiled shed was provided for the boarders. The home began to function from 1996 in Bosco Nagar in a small tiled shed.  Bro. Bosco Sdb was the first assistant.  Sr. Magdalene FMA who was the Head Mistress of the School from 2000 to 2003 used to reside in Melanmarainadu and go to Melanmarainadu Village to look after the School and afterwards when the school was shifted to Bosco Nagar.
