Don Bosco Anbu Illam was started in 1988. It is dedicated to rehabilitate the street and working children of Salem, and to empower communities that are neglected. DBAI helps to mobilize the community through organization. Through the provision of sheltered education and skills training we work towards a holistic rehabilitation of street and working children.

Don Bosco Anbu Illam is a catalyst Organization that will increase the cooperation and collaboration of peoples Organization and empower the community by making sure equal and standard Education for all, create employment through vocational training, create awareness and sensitization about the Human Rights and make people take part in Governance through networking with NGOs and CBOs for the eradication of social discrimination among the people in order to create the Just and Equal society

a.Goals of the Institution:
Right to survival, protection, participation and development ensured for all children living in difficult
Circumstances (street children, working children, missing and trafficking children, HIV/AIDS affected and
Infected children) through a community based approach in the district and salem and Namakkal.
a. Objectives of the Instittution
A. Eighty percent reduction in the number of street children in the district of Salem and Namakkal.
B. Working children
12 Villages declared Child labor free, where children below 14 years are integrated to mainstream schools and ensured retention.
C. Missing and trafficked children
Fifty percent reduction and prevention in trafficked/ missing children in 5 block of salem and Namakkal districts at the end of 3 years through effective monitoring system.
D. HIV / AIDS affected and infected children lead an improved quality of life ensured alternate care in
institutions woth better psychosocial support, health care and community care in the operational areas.
E. Community Based Organization
Long term sustainability ensured by the maximum Utilization of the community resources for all intervention for children in difficult circumstances.

Intervention
Centre for drop-outs and contact centre is functioning in Salem.
Shelter homes are run by Don Bosco at Salem for 50 children.
Rehabilitation shelter homes are managed by efficient staff for 100 boys.
Transit School / Bridge Courses are being conducted for the street children.
Community organization(Child rights club , Youth club, Young women, Women sangams, Core/ Support group) programs are on going
Education (Non formal and formal) is imparted to 50 youth.
Skill Training
20 Boys – House keeping, Cookery and Fast food, Courier – delivery boys, Office in charge, Driver, Electrical-pluming, cycle repairing,
Girls – House keeping, Cookery, Old age, Baby care, First Aid, Tailoring are conducted at strategic locations at Salem.
Child line (Rescue and rehabilitation of children in difficulties / danger) facilities are available at Salem.
