Profile

Don Bosco Maiyam Pallithammam was started in 1989. It is a premier institution working for the rural poor youth in Sivagangai District. It gives value education to the poor students of kalayar koil union. Many rural poor youth were educated in Don Bosco Pallithammam through ITI and Higher secondary school.

Activities

 

1. Academic education to children of fisher-folk, Sri Lankan refugees and less-privileged children at Sahaya Nagar, Pallithammam.
2. Home for the orphans, semi-orphans and children from very poor families with educational support.
3. Technical institute to provide job-oriented skill-training to children of fisher-folk, Sri Lankan refugees and less-privileged children.
4. Dispensary for the local poor at Nedungulam

Free evening tuition centres at 12 villages benefiting more than 400 children in a year

We the Salesians of Bosco Maiyam envisage Quality education for the poor and abandoned youth. Specialized technical skill training for the school dropouts and creating job opportunities. Safe and free shelter homes for orphans and semi-orphans. Empowerment of rural women through self-employment training. Formation of socially motivated youngsters. 

Mission of Don Bosco – Pallithammam

1. To provide quality basic education for the poor children of the district of Sivagangai area.

2. To provide specialized technical skill training for the school dropouts of Kalayarkoil area.

3. To provide boarding and lodging facilities for the orphans and semi-orphans of the Sivagangai and Ramnad Districts.

4. To provide self-employment training for the un-educated women of Kalayarkoil area.

5. To create a centre for career guidance and job placement cell for the youngsters of Sivagangai district.

Original purpose of the institution:

Bosco Maiyam was a multipurpose center, which eventually became a community of Salesians engaged in variety of services for the villagers in their villages, through parish ministry and education through school ministry.

Original target group:

  1. Rural catholic population.

  2. Poor students of Kalayar koil Union.

  3. Youth of Bosco Maiyam Parish.
